The Hue lights were organized in the Hue app.

When I added the Hue integration to Home Assistant, Home Assistant confirmed the rooms for the lights nicely in one screen.

However, when accessing the Hue lights via Home Assistant in Apple Home and Google Home, the lights are not organized by room. It’s a giant mess that makes the Apple|Google Home app unusable for anything but voice access with Siri|Gemini.

I’m still using the Hue hub, not the ZBT-1/Zigbee yet.

Mill · The world's first panel heater with Matter - MillWe are now launching a range of integrations that allow you to control your heating in the same app as your other smart home products. Through Matter, you can now control Mill WiFi Gen 3 panel heaters and Mill Smart WiFi Plug with Amazon Alexa, Apple Home and Google Home. All Mill WiFi products (except […]

Accidentally bought my first #Thread / #Matter devices, a set of GU10 RGBW lamps.

Didn't pair to Homekit initially, they needed to be reset. But now they're in there and working.

But how the hell do I get them into #homeassistant?

Nothing was auto discovered. Added the Thread integration. Did the "Send credentials to Home Assistant" so HA can now see a network but no Thread Border Routers.

Maybe I should have used a spare dongle and setup my own Thread network?

I continue to believe Zigbee delivers on the important things that Matter and Thread keep promising, but actually:

• mature
• widely available
• affordable

The one thing Matter over Thread devices can claim is that they work without a hub… except they don’t; the hub still has to be built into your Nest display, Apple HomePod, etc.

I have hundreds of low power, local-only smart devices from a dozen or so brands and it all… just works together.

Has anyone here used a #Matter smart plug to detect when an electrical appliance has *finished* doing something?

For example, I want to plug in my rice cooker and get an alert on my phone when its electrical use drops to zero.

Ideally using something like #HomeAssistant - but I'm not fussed.

(Looking for people with direct & personal experience; I know how to use Google. Also, not looking for your criticisms of #IoT.)

My brother texted me “what smart dimmer should I get?”

Little did he know he kicked off a multi-hour chat about Matter, Thread, LAN control, Nest, Google Home, Zigbee, hubs, border routers, controllers, HomeKit, IKEA TRÅDFRI, and XKCD 927.

The whole industry has screwed this every chance they’ve had, and Matter—the most promising “solution”—is still a huge disappointment.
