1/ First time using an M3 MacBook Air (work HW... that's for another post).

Comparing my #Framework 13 running Linux (Debian testing w/ Gnome):

Mac battery life/temp are way better. Not a big deal for me but it's a significant difference.

IMO the screens are similar (graphic designers will probably disagree). FW 3:2 ratio is very nice.

I don't get the obsession with the Mac touchpad. Both seem... fine.

Mac keyboard is objectively inferior. It's not even close.

Weight is near identical.

@killyourfm Very understandable. I will take saving space on a device with storage constraints, like these handhelds.

I haven't gotten the game yet, but when I do, I hope it plays better or I have a #framework desktop when I do get it.

It is also going to be a while before I order the desktop, need to save money right now. At least I can enjoy watching others test it out and run Bazzite.

It arrived! I had a few misadventures last night with the Bluefin installer not wanting to set up a boot loader. Apparently it's a common issue that I was able to resolve by installing Fedora Workstation first to fully wipe out any existing partitions, and ensuring all the firmware was updated.

I'll write a follow-up thread with my early impressions later, but so far I'm impressed. If you are at SCALE22x come see me and I'll be happy to tell you in person.

Whoa #Framework is fast! Laptop has shipped and there is a chance it might arrive the day before I leave for SCALE. Since it should just be a matter of swapping in a NVME drive, I might just be able to get up to speed immediately and present on this on Sunday!

Did you miss the @frameworkcomputer announcements last week? How? They have unveiled two new product offerings as well as continuing their commitment to upgrading your current system!

We are excited not just for these announcements, but also for their increased support of the Linux community as they do so. :)

New Framework 13 AMD Mainboard: community.frame.work/t/introdu

New Framework Desktop: community.frame.work/t/introdu

New Framework Laptop 12: community.frame.work/t/introdu

Time for a new daily driver!

I've been using an older T-series Thinkpad I traded for a Librem 14 as my Bluefin laptop, but I finally decided it's time to upgrade to something modern. The current generation Framework 13 seemed like the perfect fit.

It's too bad it probably won't get to me before I leave for #scale22x, it would be fun to show it off there, but I'm excited regardless!

@frameworkcomputer ngl... putting the mainboard in a printer output.....
Either it's just "heh, mainboard fresh off the printer"

OR IT'S HINT RIGHT IN OUR FACES, that a #Framework PRINTER is in the works!?!

We see right through you Framework!!!

XDDD 👍 (low key excited for a printer though if that's actually happening. It'd instantly preorder 2)

The Framework Desktop looks pretty cool. I always wanted to downside my desktop, I care less about GPU performance these days, and want to have a desktop more intended for work. Plus, LAN party friendly. But I also am a very converted Apple user, so a Mac Mini has always been interesting. #framework

@frameworkcomputer If that chip doesn't support modularity then don't use it! To step away from your brand's very point of existence for something so unnecessary is just stupid, let alone on the PC market which is in fact *more modular* than your product.

You should've changed your plans once it was clear that chip supports neither modular memory nor dedicated GPUs. Now you can hardly criticize others for making stuff less modular & repairable without looking like a hypocrite.

First impressions of #Framework's new products:

There's basically no info on the website on the Framework 12, their new convertable/touchscreeen laptop. It looks like it'll take modules, but I can't even confirm it shares a motherboard with the 13/16.

The desktop has a lot of caveats. Very svelte, mini-itx 4.5L. New motherboard form factor. One PCIe x4, which isn't exposed on the launch case.

But the USB C modules now come in colors.

Framework Laptop 12 is a cheaper, more colorful take on a repairable laptop PC

At a product event today, the company showed off what it called "an early preview" of its third laptop design, the convertible, budget-focused Framework Laptop 12.

This addition to Framework's lineup centers on a 12.2-inch, 1920×1200 convertible touchscreen that flips around to the back with a flexible hinge, a la Lenovo's long-running Yoga design.

The first #Framework Laptop 12 motherboard is going to use Intel's 13th-generation Core i3 and i5 processors, originally launched back in late 2022. It supports up to 48GB of DDR5-5200 (implying just a single DDR5 RAM slot).

The company hopes to begin preorders in April and to begin shipping the laptop in mid-2025.
