wandrew

the sea is a kind of decentralised social network

@wandrew Isn't that what SecureScuttlebutt was on about?

@neauoire @wandrew the statistical overrepresentation of habitual boat users among distributed social network software developers cannot be denied

@neauoire @wandrew hey nice man, do you have an amateur radio license in Canada? I think one of my goals for 2020 will be to get my license! Been keeping a VHF radio on me when I go on forest service roads around BC or any snowy conditions - you can use them in an emergency, licensed or not. Lots of off-grid adventures means radio is about all you get! haha

@amatecha @wandrew we only have the VHF license, but I would love a HAM radio on the boat someday.

@neauoire @wandrew oh like marine radio license? ah yeah man you can communicate great distances. however I’m not sure yet what kind of power consumption longer-range stuff requires - potentially a real limiting factor for you

@amatecha @wandrew Yeah, it's kind of tricky to isolate the radio from the boat rigging, but it's on the radar. We'll definitely redesign our power grid before embarking on this sort of project.

@amatecha @wandrew

"on the radar.."
"embark on this sort.."

Fuck, am I starting to talk like a pirate

@neauoire @wandrew hahah! that’s okay, my wording “real limiting factor” was originally “real blocker” but I realized I sound like I’m discussing a work task or something 😂

@wandrew does that make my bathtub a siloed independent social media instance?
