info request re changing name and gender marker in the uk, boost please!

hello!!! i am attempting a big project and would appreciate some input. i'm trying to cover the process of changing your name and gender marker with as many UK organisations as possible so if you've done this with for example, a bank/card provider, insurance company, utilities provider or on your vehicle log book, or anything else you can think of, and you can decribe the process to me, i would LOVE that! currently i would particularly like to hear from you if you know the process for:
- getting your first passport with a name/gender marker different from your birth certificate
- changing the name on an under-16's passport
- changing your name on your passport if you have dual citizenship (UK and elsewhere)
- getting your vehicle log book updated

should've noted that i want to rely as little as possible on ppl having a GRC!

@bryn I have changed my name and title with my bank (Nationwide), and name with my passport but not gender marker. I'll be happy to talk about the process when I have the energy for it later, I'll remind myself :)

@bryn Bank and credit card were both easy - wanted copies of my deed poll sent by post but they were quite quick to turn it around. At least one of them said they wanted an enrolled deed poll on their web site but I just sent the regular kind and they didn’t make a fuss. I don’t think anyone doing their admin knew or cared about the difference.

@bryn Sorry - yes. Co-Operative Bank and Barclaycard.

@ghost_bird that's really brilliant, thank you so much

@bryn @ghost_bird I changed my name with Barclays too, though just on my current account and savings. I took my deed poll into the branch and saw someone in person to do it. It was pretty easy.

(My experience is likely out of date 'cos I did it over 10 years ago)

@bentosmile @ghost_bird that's great, thank you 😊

@bryn NHS name change was just a matter of telling my GP’s office... but their system kept calling me Mx instead of Ms. Turns out gender’s encoded in your NHS number, but you can request a new one. They wanted a copy my deed poll and it took a couple of months for the change to come through, but it was still easy - just another request through my GP’s office.

@bryn I used this guide to getting my NHS details changed:
genderkit.org.uk/article/updat

And this is the official leaflet for GPs on how the process works - can be helpful to give them a copy:

@ghost_bird funny, they messed up my title the other way around... it's really useful to know the different ways they can be awkward so thank you again!

@bryn my general advice for people is to not change their name with their bank, but to get a new account at a different one: things may have improved in the last 10 years, but “changed” didn’t always mean “actually changed everywhere”, and the old name would show up in edge cases & less-used workflows (e.g. international transfers, adding a countersignatory to a shared account)

@Domant3lis @bryn wish I could help out, I haven't started my name change process yet, I've been putting a lot of official transition stuff because of the pandemic unfortunately
