coronavirus ableism death etc

disabled people are like, hey we're the ones at risk of dying from the pandemic and the restrictions are the bare minimum precaution keeping our fellow citizens from casually killing us en masse.
and abled people are like, i hear you, and i'm very sorry, however i'm also bored

coronavirus ableism death etc

not to undermine the seriousness of the boredom! it sucks! and it's a really hard way to live!, as anyone with a long-term disability or chronic illness knows all too well

coronavirus ableism death etc

i did feel uncertain posting this, as it feels a little mean towards people who are hurt by the lockdown precautions. however, i am seeing this exact take from nazi brits online quite a lot, so fuck them.

coronavirus ableism death etc

@alex I got so upset & depressed at this take on Twitter that I've decided to take a break because I cannot cope with being told how useless and unwanted I am.

I know it's mean of me, but I hope everyone who has this take, gets long covid.

@GwenfarsGarden i have felt exactly the same. it's so dispiriting.

coronavirus ableism death etc

@alex Yeah it absolutely enrages me to see how much of the messaging has been "we need to reopen for the good of people's mental health! People's mental health is suffering!" And yeah, my mental health has reached crisis point this last year, as it happens!

But the one I'm facing now, with the end of restrictions meaning I can't do things, or see family, potentially for even longer? That's an even bigger mental health crisis for me.

coronavirus ableism death etc

@bright_helpings 100% yeah. There's all sorts of things that could be done to improve societal mental health over this hard time, and they've tried none of them. It's disingenuous of them to pretend that simply giving up trying to contain the virus is anything other than the most politically expedient thing to do right now.

@alex "I understand your concerns however you have to keep in mind that the alternative is me wearing a piece of soft cloth over my face for a few minutes when I go in the shops, and we can all agree that's worse than your death"

coronavirus ableism death etc

@alex if one thinks that disabled people deserve to suffer and die in order for abled people to have a live a life free from simple precautions from a pandemic that is ongoing and resurging, then yeah, they are dangerous fascists.

It's like someone not stopping their car for someone using a wheelchair crossing the road cause "you can't expect me to not live my life"

uk (esp england) is full of fascists, and they can go fuck themselves.
